THE first time I saw the newly launched Jaguar F-Type R Coupe was on the road sometime last week at the Kiulap roundabout.
The Jaguar F-Type R with its dynamic, sporty and curvy design caught not only my attention but also that of other road users as it zoomed past the afternoon traffic.
I was told at a launching ceremony held at The Empire Hotel and Country Club that this new model is the most capable, performance-focused Jaguar ever.
Phil Popham, Group Marketing Director, Jaguar Land Rover explained, “The F-Type Coupe provides the driver with a unique sports car experience.
“It combines a seductive design with cutting-edge technology and performance that is truly breath-taking. Engaging, precise, intuitive and alive, it is the definitive sports coupe.”
The new model’s line-up is head-lined by the F-Type R, with a 550 PS/680 Nm, 5.0-litre V8 supercharged engine that enables acceleration of up to 60 mph in about four seconds and a top speed of 186 mph.
It also features Jaguar’s 2nd gene-ration Electronic Active Differential, which works in parallel with the new Torque Vectoring to deliver enhanced agility and exploitable hand-ling.
For more agility and stability, the Jaguar F-Type Coupe builds on Jaguar’s industry-leading expertise in aluminium, delivering torsional rigidity of 33,000 Nm/ degree, ma-king it Jaguar’s most torsionally rigid production so far.
The F-Type Coupe embodies the uncompromised design vision of the stunning Jaguar C-X16 sports coupe concept that made its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, its dramatic cabin-rearward stance defined by three heartlines.
The first two heartlines, shared with F-Type Convertible, form the muscular front and rear wings, while the third, being the sweeping roof profile, provides an unbroken silhouette which emphasises the visual drama of the tapered cabin sitting between powerful rear haunches.
Meanwhile, the F-Type S Coupe and other F-Type Coupe models complete the range, powered respectively by 380 PS and 340 PS versions of Jaguar’s 3.0-litre super-charged V6 engine, enabling speeds of up to 60 mph in 4.8/5.1 seconds and top speeds of 171/161 mph.
A Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) braking system – featuring 398/380-mm front/rear discs – is optional on both the F-Type R and S Coupe models.
All engines drive the rear wheels through an eight-speed Quickshift transmission with full manual sequential control via steering wheel-mounted paddles or the central Sportshift lever.
The interior, meanwhile, has up to 407 litres of boot space and can easily accommodate two sets of golf clubs.
Ian Hoban, Vehicle Line Director, Jaguar added, “With F-Type Coupe, Jaguar’s engineering team has ex-ceeded our considerable target of building a car that delivers even more rewards than the acclaimed F-Type Convertible.
“Engineering an exceptionally rigid, all-aluminium coupe body structure was the key to achieving this, as it is the fundamental basis for enhanced dynamic attributes. The result is that the F-Type Coupe is the most dynamically capable and involving Jaguar we’ve ever built.”
The F-Type Coupe range complements the existing 2013 ‘World Car Design of the Year’ award winner F-Type Convertible model’s line-up of F-Type, F-Type S and F-Type V8 S.
