INSTITUT Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) held a reception ceremony for 65 of its new 1436H/2015M secondary students yesterday at the Lecture Hall of the institute.
The guest of honour was the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ustaz Haji Johar bin Haji Mohammad. Also present were senior officers of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, parents and new students as well as officers, teachers and staff of the institute.
The event began with the recitation of verses from Al-Quran, followed by speeches from the Acting Principal of ITQSHHB, Ustaz Pg Haji Haslin bin Pg Haji Ali, and the guest of honour.
The guest of honour was thankful and proud with the constant success of the institute in producing more Hafiz of Quran for the country.
He said the institute has many meaningful developments such as the implementation of the National Diploma in Hafazan (Memorisation) of Al-Quran and Qiraat since 2010 and government scholarship opportunities for students to continue their studies at Ma’had Qiraat Al-Azhar Shoubra, Egypt and Darul Quran JAKIM, Malaysia.
“I hope with the intake of new students today, Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah will be able to continue their development and contribution to Brunei’s vision as a Zikir Nation,” he said.
The new students successfully completed a four-day Tahsin Al-Quran workshop from January 6 to 10, 2015 as early exposure to recitation and memorisation of Al-Quran.
This was followed by the Ta’aruf Week or orientation week, which started from January 12 to 17, 2015, to allow the new students to get to know each other and to adapt themselves to the hostel life.
The Ta’aruf Week was also filled with activities such as workshops, lectures, talks and religious reminders.
This was followed by the recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil for the late parents of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the Royal Mausoleum and an Al-Quran memorisation competition.
The ceremony then continued with the presentation of Mushaf Al-Quran to the new students and the presentation of prizes for the Ta’aruf Week activities.
The students then read their pledges as new students of the institute.
A handover of the new students to Ustaz Haji Aliman bin Haji Salim, Head of Al-Quran Section, ITQSHHB was then carried out.
The event concluded with the presentation of a token of appreciation to the guest of honour and a recitation of the Doa Selamat.
Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah was established in January 1993 and the education system is based on boarding school.
Admission of students is open every year accompanied by a process of interviews.
This year marks the highest intake of students since 2010 with 65 students – 39 male and 26 female students. Year 7 subjects are divided into four categories: Al-Quran Studies, Dirasah Islamiah, Arabic Language and Academic Studies.
