THE 7th National Level Arabic Language Speech Competition for Arabic School final was held at the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys Secondary School Hall, yesterday.
Siti Hafizah Al-Haziqah binti Ariffin of Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) with a score of 91.2 per cent and Izzatus Syakirah binti Ariffin of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School (SUAMPRIPAD) with a score of 93.95 per cent emerged overall champions in category A and B respectively.
Hajah Siti Marjiana binti Haji Mohammad, Head Administration Section of Islamic Studies Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs, was the chief guest at the event.
Siti Zulaiha binti Empudin of Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys Secondary School (SMALHB) who scored 88 per cent won the second place in category ‘A’.
Third place was won by Nur Nadhirah binti Sh’minan also of SMALHB with 87.15 per cent.
In category ‘B’, Zharif Aziz bin Haji Abdul Manap of ITQSHHB who scored 87.50 per cent came second. The third place was won by Nurul Arminatul Atiqah binti Abdullah of Arabic Preparatory School, Temburong who scored 83.4 per cent.
A total of five contestants in each category competed at the final competition yesterday, category ‘A’ for Years 10, 11 & Pre U and category ‘B’ for Years 7, 8 & 9.
The Arabic Language Speech compe-tition is part of the annual activity of Islamic Studies Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs, planned by the Co-Curriculum Section, and has been taking place since 2007. According to the organiser, the competition aims to educate, nurture and unearth talents and at the same time instil in students an interest to speak Arabic Language, from an early school level.
The competition is open to all Arabic school students, while ITQSHHB is invited to participate in the competition.
The organiser hopes that such activities would promote the widespread usage of Arabic Language for communication purposes among the general public especially among the Muslim community. He also hopes that such activities would become a platform to spread Arabic Language among the general public.
Along with students, organising com-mittee members, headmasters and prin-cipal were present at the event.
