INSTITUT Teknologi Brunei (ITB) yesterday welcomed its newest members of the ITB Student Representative Council (SRC) at a ceremony, where they witnessed the symbolic handing over of responsibilities from SRC’s outgoing members to the elected members for the 2015/2016 session.
After welcoming remarks were delivered by ITB Acting Vice-Chancellor cum guest of honour Associate Professor Dr Hjh Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman, speeches were delivered by outgoing SRC President Naasiruddeen bin Abdul Wahab and the incoming President Mohamad Syukri bin Jamil.
The guest of honour then presented certificates of appreciation to the outgoing SRC committee, and appointment letters to the new committee. The council members later took their oaths, led by their new president.
ITB SRC now consists of 16 members – five of whom are from the Highest Council (Majlis Tertinggi) and 11 have been entrusted as heads of various Excos.
The new members assumed their roles following an election by their peers and consequently assessments set by the previous council members and ITB staff members.
The ITB Co-Curricular Activity (ITB CCA) Open Day was officiated shortly after the ceremony concluded.
The Open Day serves as a platform for various student clubs in ITB to showcase their activities in the interest of recruiting new members.
ITB SRC is a student-led organisation that supports a range of student clubs across the fields of sports, culture, religion and community services – some 50 of which participated in the Open Day.
ITB students’ involvement in extra-curricular activities is an important element in students’ personal development and in line with ITB’s ambition to produce 360-degree graduates.
