THE revolution of the country’s higher education system has started gaining momentum as policy and decision makers gathered to learn and equip their human resources with the necessary tools to generate strategies that are in tune with the needs of the country.
Until today, a total of 52 participants are scheduled to learn from two eminent international facilitators who will deliberate on institutional change where focus will be on challenges of managing higher education, the development of vision, missions and strategies and the formulation of effective strategic planning for higher learning institutions.
Taking place at The Empire Hotel & Country Club in Jerudong, as explained by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB), the course aims at providing higher education institutions with the foundation to plan, implement and monitor strategies in line with their respective ambitions.
Attended by a number of higher education institution representatives and organised by ITB, the course will task senior and junior leaders to identify key issues in strategic planning and apply various advanced configuration options to enhance current strategic plans.
“The carefully-selected topics that are discussed in the form of an intensive round-table workshop,” stated Associate Professor Dr Hjh Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman in her welcoming remarks, “was introduced to ensure that participants are able to learn the step-by-step formulation of their respective strategic plans by the end of today’s session”.
“It is important for higher education institutions to be in the forefront with other international institutions as the development of the plan will ensure that there is an agreement on the vision, mission and priorities of the university moving forward,” she said.
Among those taking part in the gathering, which was once exclusive to ITB, include the likes of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Relgious Teacher’s University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB), the Department of Technical Education as well as Politeknik Brunei whose representatives will work together in bridging skills gaps and consequently equip them to excel in demanding roles as academic and administrative leaders.
