SOME 80 students from the Inter-national School Brunei (ISB) ac-companied by their parents and teachers recently gathered at the beach area of Seaview Hotel in Kuala Belait for a walkathon and clean-up activity organised by ISB’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA).
Deputy Principal Matthew Walsh, who led the activities, shared with the Borneo Bulletin that the event was aimed at raising money for the school’s funds.
“Every child has gone home and asked their friends, parents and relatives for support to help the school buy more resources, such as educational play equipment for the children,” he said. “Our target is about $5,000, which would be great for the school if it could be achieved. Another aim for the clean-up activity is for them (the students) to learn the good in community service while keeping the beach clean.”
The students on Tuesday walked along the beach, which was marked with indicators, and picked up litter from the sand.
At the same time, in a separate event, the Move-A-Thon was held for the early years children at ISB, which featured age-appropriate ac-tivities such as the Egg Relay and Bicycle Race.
In an attempt to familiarise the youngsters with the community, they were also brought to a nearby supermarket and furniture shop and taught the local businesses and organisations which operates in the the school’s surrounding area.
