THE Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) and Centre for Islamic Banking Finance and Management (CIBFM) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the ILIA building of Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
Signing on behalf of the CIBFM was its Chief Executive Officer, Makhtar bin Haji Abdullah, while IRTI was represented by its Director-General, Professor Dato’ Dr Mohamed Azmi Omar.
The MoU promotes increased cooperation and communication in a collective effort to enhance awareness and education on Islamic Finance, while further fortifying the relationship between the two agencies in the areas of reference materials, human capital development and collaborative research.
In his welcoming remark, Makhtar bin Haji Abdullah stated that the event is an initiative that CIBFM would like to promote in which they would give opportunities to the public from time-to-time, especially participants in CIBFM.
The ceremony was followed by a talk with IRTI’s Director-General entitled ‘Islamic Finance Industry: The Role of Islamic Development Bank Group (IDBG)’ where he touched on a number of topics such as the structure, role and current standing of the Global Islamic Financial Service Industry as well as discussed the potential of the Halal industry.
The event was also attended by members of CIBFM’s Board of Directors, senior officials from Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam, IDB and IRTI as well as academics.
