AN INTER-SCHOOLS Science PowerPoint Presentation Competition for Zone III Schools was held yesterday at Tanjong Maya Secondary School in Tutong District.
The competition was organised by the Ministry of Education (MoE) through Department of Schools in collaboration with Petrokan Utama Sendirian Berhad as the main sponsor.
The competition acted as a platform for students to enhance their potential, mainly in communication, ICT and public speaking.
Among the objectives were to develop young science researchers in realising a highly-skilled and educated generation towards Brunei Vision 2035.
Tanjong Maya Secondary School Principal Aliuddin bin Hj Abdul Rahman said the theme was “Health Living: Its impact on the nation”.
“The theme aimed to highlight the importance of a healthy lifestyle in reducing the impact of health problems.
“Non-communicable diseases such as cancer, heart diseases, hypertension and diabetes have become the main causes of death in Brunei over the last 10 years.
“So today’s event is a platform for students or our younger generation to explore the issues and do their own research based on the theme,” he said.
The presentation was graded based on the students’ communications and ICT skills and strategy.
The adjudicators comprised three officials from Health Promotion Centre, Ministry of Health, Petrokan Utama Sdn Bhd and secondary section of the Department of Schools, MoE.
The guest of honour was Acting Assistant Director of Co-Curriculum, Department of Schools, MoE, Awang Roslin bin Hj Suhailee.
The competition was won by Mahad Islam Brunei, while second place went to SM Sayyidina Hussain Secondary School and third Tanjong Maya Secondary School.
