INSTITUT Teknologi Brunei (ITB) hosted a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony held in conjunction with ITB’s first Pesta Konvo at the university’s mosque.
The ceremony involved a total of 97 participants comprising 21 male and 76 female graduates from Intake 2 of ITB’s undergraduate degree programme and Intake 27 of its Higher National Diploma programme.
The guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Education.
Also in attendance were Dato Seri Setia Haji Yusoff bin Haji Ismail, Deputy Minister of Education; Dato Paduka Dr Awg Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education and Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD); Associate Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Acting Vice-Chancellor of ITB; Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education and other officials from the Ministry of Education and ITB.
The ceremony started with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the minister and was followed by a recitation of verses of Al-Quran by the participants and Takhtim.
Doa Khatam was recited by Muhammad Nazirul Rawi bin Zaimin, a Civil Engineering undergraduate.
The guest of honour presented the certificates to the male participants, while Associate Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah and Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina presented certificates to the female participants.
A Doa Selamat was then recited by Haji Mohd Zahid bin Haji Mohd Zain, the Imam of the university mosque.
ITB’s Pesta Konvo was inaugurated on September 30 by His Royal Highness Prince (Dr) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Pro-Chancellor of ITB. ITB Convocation 2014 for a total of 416 degree and HND graduates will be held on October 23.
