THE Indian community in Belait-Seria area celebrated Deepavali in a colourful event organised at Pusat Insani, Seria last Saturday, November 15.
The Belait District Officer, Haji Haris bin Haji Othman, was the chief guest of the Deepavali Nite. He lauded the efforts and contribution of the Indian Association of Belait (IAB) to the community. He said that the association, which is about 65 years old, should continue its good efforts.
IAB President Devarajan welcomed the guests and thanked all those who were present for supporting the activities of the association.
The IAB President handed over a donation to the chief guest from the IAB.
The District Officer handed over the donation from IAB to Alias bin Yusoff from SMARTER Brunei.
The Penghulu of Seria and representatives of business community in Belait and Seria also attended the celebration.
Some traditional Indian and Bollywood dances were showcased by the Indian community including children. They were dressed in colourful costumes portraying various regions in India, representing a multicultural and diverse society. Members from the Indian community living in Belait-Seria choreographed these programmes.
There was also a video presentation which portrayed the efforts of IAB with the support of its members in reaching out to the local community.
General Secretary Manohar Murali extended a vote of thanks for the support of various members of the Indian community, other local companies and organisations for the success of the Deepavali Nite 2014.
Over 700 people attended the celebration and dinner was served that included traditional Indian dishes.
