Wanderers edge Gunners at softball league

THE 2013 Gunners Fastpitch Softball League started last Sunday with an exciting match between two rivalling titans at the Gunners Softball Field of the Jerudong Polo and Riding Club in Jerudong.

The first match saw Wanderers against Gunners fighting for honours with no scores in the first two innings. In the third inning, Wanderers managed to lead by 2-1 but Gunners overtook the lead 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth and held the score until the bottom of the fifth inning.

Wanderers managed to tie the score 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning and both teams held on until the end of seventh inning which led to the tie-breaker in the 8th inning.

In the 8th inning, a mix-up of technical rules which was them resolved after the match but nevertheless put out two Wanderers players on the offence. Both teams didn’t score and was continued to the ninth inning.

In the 9th inning, Wanderers managed to score 4 runs with Aaqib brought in by Shuwari’s hit to outfield. Alwin then hit a two base hit which brought home Shuwari.

After two outs, Rudy hit a hard grounder that led errors to Gunners infielders. Alwin and Muda on base were able to score another two runs for Wanderers. The offence team was put down after Aliff hit a caught infield fly for a third out.

Gunners last at bat then only managed to score a run with Kani brought in by Pg Musa with a hard ground hit.

The match ended with Wanderers scoring 9 against Gunners with 6 runs after nine innings.

In another match, PLK Zombies whipped Wasabi 24-5 and need the match after a Run-Ahead Rule was called in the 3rd inning.

The league will continue with the first ladies match and opening ceremony on Saturday at 7pm between Divas and Pasadena.

Sunday will see two more giants in the softball scene with PLK Zombies facing Black Arrows at 2pm and Gunners against Kensei at 4pm.
