Singapore Tourism previews upcoming events

SINGAPORE remains as one of the most popular destination for Bruneian as 62,230 visited the Lion City in 2011. The figure placed the sultanate at the 25th position in international arrivals in Singapore.

Sherina Chan, Singapore Tourism Board’s Area Director for Philippines and Brunei revealed this yesterday in a press conference on upcoming events in Singapore at the Empire Hotel and Country Club.

She mentioned that in 2011, Brunei visitors spent around $128 million on shopping and leisure putting the country at the 16th rank for 2011 Tourism Receipts.

The figure for last year will grow further after statistics from January to June 2012 for international visitor arrivals has shown that Brunei visitors jumped to 17th place with 32,680 visitors.

Singapore Tourism highlighted some of the upcoming events that Bruneians may not want to miss.

As a family-friendly destination, Universal Studios Singapore will feature new attractions from the furry gang from Sesame Street which included Elmo and friends. River Safari, Asia’s first river-themed animal park will open its door in June to give visitors an up-close view of freshwater habitats and animals by ferrying guests to eight river zones.

“With the opening of the River Safari this year, we hope to cement Singapore as the ultimate friendly destination that not only excites and delights the sense of the children but also provides families with unforgettable holiday moments amidst the breathtaking and iconic backdrop.” Sherina Said

Meanwhile, The Marine Life Park opened in December 7, 2012 is another must-visit destination in Singapore. It is the world’s largest oceanarium containing 100,000 marine animals from over 800 species. Resorts World Sentosa’s aquatic adventure park comes complete with towering waterslides, wave pools, tropical jungle gardens and grottos inhabited by sea creatures.

For nature lovers, The 101-hectare Gardens by the Bay thrills visitors with its awe inspiring domes, intricate installations and amazing flora and fauna displays. It houses the largest climate controlled glasshouses and conservatories. It also received the world building of the year award from the 2012 World Architecture Festival.

For entertainment, top comedian Russell Peter will be performing at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on March 25. The tickets for the show are still available.

The Great Singapore Sales will take place from May 31 to July 28.

In the food scene, Singapore will be hosting Savour 2013 with over 30 world-renowned chefs and top Singaporean talents whipping up more than 60 award-winning dishes. The culinary experience also includes a two-storey gourmet market and an amazing array of 300 complimentary master classes, demos and workshop. Savour 2013 is from April 11 to 14.

Visitors can also visit World Street Food Jamboree featuring 40 of the world’s best street food for 10 days from May 21 at the F1 Pit Building and Paddock.
