THE Veteran Football Association (VFA) will once more be organising the National Veteran Football Championship, which is set to start on April 5 and come to a close on June 30.
One of the notable changes this year made by the organisers is that the 4th President’s Cup tournament and second edition of the FA Cup will be held concurrently.
The President’s Cup will be held in a league format, with a total of four groups, whereby the top two teams from each will enter the quarter-finals, whilst the FA Cup will remain a knockout competition.
Any and all veteran football teams across the sultanate are welcome to participate, provided they pay the entry fee of $450 for both competitions. Entry forms can be obtained by contacting the Tournament Secretary, Jabar Ithnin (882 0062). The closing date for entry is March 10.
In last season’s championship, Muara Vella FC completed the double, with Semaun Veteran their victims on both occasions.
In addition to the two trophies up for grabs, the VFA have organised a Charity Cup match to mark the start of this year’s tournament, which will be between Muara Vella FC and Semaun Veteran on March 31.
