YEAR 10 students of Pehin Dato Seri Maharaja Mentiri Secondary School had the opportunity to get a better understanding of a local business establishment yesterday.

Fifty-five students, accompanied by their supervising teachers, Mr Martin, Miss Afiqah and led by Miss Rose, took time out after school to visit the Megastrike Bowling Centre at the Airport Mall.

According to Miss Rose, the idea of making the educational trip was to get an insight on the establishment as well as to practise the students’ capabilities in conversing English fluently and build their confidence.

Miss Rose sees the centre as a family sports venue thus giving her the idea of bringing the students as part of their English subject activities.

Prior to the visit, she had prepared an article about bowling at Megastrike, which she took from the Internet and got the students to summarise the article.

A roleplay was also conducted where students took part as reporters doing an interview with Megastrike staff to build up their speaking confidence.

Following their visit, the students were required to write a report on their visit to the bowling Centre.

She concluded that the school might follow the footsteps of STPRI Secondary School where she was told that students from STPRI conducted one of its CCA activities at Megastrike Bowling Centre.

Yesterday’s visit began with a welcoming speech and presentation by Megastrike Managing Director Major (Rtd) Hjh Sharifah Hazlina Elham who briefed the students on the background of the bowling centre.

A retired officer from the first intake of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Women Officers, Major (Rtd) Hjh Sharifah Hazlina also took time to entertain questions from the students and shared with them on what prompted her and family members to engage in the business.

Students also had the opportunity to tour the facilities and had their hands on a game of bowling, which they enjoyed.

The visit concluded with a presentation of a token of appreciation from the students and a group photo.
