50 PE teachers attend netball coaching workshop to raise quality of athletes

In an effort to raise the quality of netball athletes in the country, especially in schools, some 50 Physical Education (PE) teachers from all districts attended a netball coaching workshop, which kicked off yesterday at the multipurpose venue of Sultan Haji Hassanal National Sport Complex.

Organised by the Sports Development and Coaching Unit of JBS in collaboration with the Brunei Netball Association and the Ministry of Education, the workshop is aimed at encouraging Physical Education teachers to follow correct basic fundamentals in netball as well as to implement modern training techniques during coaching and to introduce team strategies during game play.
Thilaka Jinadasa, the netball coach under JBS Coaching Unit delivered the presentation on ‘Netball Court and Basic Fundamental in Netball’ followed by a theory session of ‘warming up’ and ‘cooling down’.
The practical sessions included the correct techniques of passes as well as fundamental footwork while for day two, the participants will learn about playing positions and tasks of each player. The workshop also touched on implantation rule of Netball Coaching, attacking strategies in netball as well as one on one defence.
