JAKSA visitors hold dialogue with Prisons Officers

MEN and women Prisons Institution, Jerudong held a meeting with 24 members of Justice ( JAKSA) visitors, who play a role in visiting and inspecting prisons according to schedule to hear any complaints or problems faced by inmates.
Their duties include to inspect the prison surrounding, food rationing, health, safety, treatment and rehabilitation programmes in accordance to the ‘Standard Minimum Rules In The Treatment Of Offenders’.
They were elected upon approval by the Minister of Home Affairs according to Section 60 (1) of the Prisons Act Chapter 51.
Any findings made by the JAKSA visitors, including proposals for improvements, were recorded for action or response to be taken.
The visitors were welcomed upon arrival by the Acting Director of Prisons, Hj Ismail bin Hj Murat, and the Acting Deputy Director of Prisons, Poh Eng Hua as Officer-in-Charge of Jerudong Prisons, as well as Prisons Officer Head, Hjh Rosni binti Kurus.
The session began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a briefing on the roles and responsibilities of the Women and Men Prisons Institution.
There was also a question-and-answer session and a tour to take a look at the facilities, skills training activities and rehabilitation programme.
