Primary, lower secondary and Arabic as well as religious schools in the country received as many as 31,000 miniature flags in conjunction with the 29th National Day Celebration. Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah led the distribution of flags at Pengiran Kesuma Negara (PKN) Primary School yesterday. Several similar ceremonies were held nationwide and thousands of flags were handed over to students. “The national flag can unite the people and residents of a country either during a national celebration or during a national crisis,” the minister said. “What is more important to be fully understood especially by students is that a national flag is a symbol of the country, signifying the existence of a nation, the sovereignty of its ruler and its people. The national flag also signifies the liberty of a nation and this makes it a very important symbol for the country.” Photo shows the minister handing over a flag to a student. – PHOTO: AZARAIMY HH
