Brunei students participate in Kizuna (Bond) Project in Japan

A TOTAL of 46 students from various schools in the nation were selected to participate in the Kizuna (Bond) Project which began on February 10 and ends on February 20, in Japan.

Four chaperones – Cikgu Mohamad Arpan bin Hj Yahya, Cikgu Muhd Ali Sufi bin Hj Md Alipah, Cikgu Norinah binti Hj Tahir and Hjh Marasmayati binti Hj Meramit – accompanied the students.

The trip was organised and coordinated by the International Unit, Department of Schools of the Ministry of Education and the Japanese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam.

According to Cikgu Mohamad Arpan, the programme was launched by the Government of Japan to promote clarity in its efforts for recovery from the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

The Japan International Education Centre (JICE) is the organiser of the event and they have invited 46 individuals (students aged 15 to 18 and four teachers) from various countries.

The Kizuna Project is an exchange programme that involves over 10,000 youths from high schools, colleges and other educational institutions from countries ranging from Asean countries to USA with the objective to help promote understanding of the international community towards Japan’s revitalisation.

The students participating in the event will return to Tokyo to summarise the programme before returning to Brunei on February 20.
