A BRIEFING session was held to give the Legislative Council (LegCo) members a deeper understanding on Asean’s background and roles, as Brunei gears up to play host to the 34th Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in September this year.

Organised by the Department of Councils of State in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT), yesterday’s briefing was held to equip and provide LegCo members a deeper understanding on Asean’s functions and roles, Dato Paduka Haji Abd Salam bin Abd Momin, Clerk II to the Legislative Council, said in his opening remarks prior to the briefing.

Dato Paduka Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at MoFAT, was on hand to deliver the briefing held at the Legislative Council building at Jalan Dewan Majlis, which was followed by a question-and-answer session.

The briefing also hoped to shed light on Asean’s correlation with the AIPA, as the members will chair a number of meetings during the assembly later this year. Present at the briefing was YB Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa bin Pehin Datu Perdana Manteri Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Ibrahim, Speaker of the Legislative Council.
