Policeman in court on rape charge

A POLICE Sergeant facing a charge of raping his 14-year-old neighbour is currently undergoing trial in the High Court before Justice Dato Paduka Steven Chong yesterday and will be continued today.

Sergeant 2107 Nawawi bin Abdullah is alleged to have raped his neighbour’s 14 year-old daughter at the police housing compound near midnight on July 12, 2007.

The prosecution brought the victim’s brother to testify yesterday as well as the Investigating Officer of the case.

Defendant’s Defense Counsel Rozaiman Rahman questioned the victim’s brother on whether he had influenced to put the incident told to him by his sister as rape instead of outraging modesty.

The witness confirmed in court that he heard the word rape in Malay from his sister himself and had no influence to it.

Counsel also questioned the investigating officer of the case on the chain of events when taking evidence from the scene.

DPP Hjh Emeralda PD Hj Abas prosecuted the case.
