Kamikaze heavy vehicles menace
I AM WRITING to raise my concerns on the heavy vehicle drivers who are using the Jalan Tutong road, including the Tanjung Nangka to Kg Kulapis road.
It has been going on for a long time and no action seems to have been taken to correct the situation.
Here, I am listing out all incidents that have happened to me from July 2012 until January 20, 2013.
The first incident was when I was at the Jerudong/Sengkurong traffic light junction.
As I was approaching the traffic lights, it was about to turn red.
I was already slowing to stop, but suddenly the pick-up beside me raced so that it wouldn’t have to stop at the red light.
My son saw this and asked why the driver did not stop at the red light.
The second incident was when I was coming out from a minimart in Tanjung Nangka area, a truck drove past my car at a speed which I assume would have been more than 80km/h.
I was shocked as there is a sharp corner in that area and I did not see the driver slowing down.
The third incident last year was as I was turning from the Kulapis Market going to Sengkurong, a truck, carrying piles of bricks was in front of my car.
All of a sudden some bricks fell off the truck.
Luckily I was not tailing or else the bricks would have hit my car.
The truck driver did not even realise what was happening at the back.
I tried to honk to get his attention from the back but he did not notice at all.
Another incident that happened just yesterday was also regarding another truck.
I was also at the back and all of a sudden the truck swerved unexpectedly to the left with the tyres just a few inches away from the roadside drain.
The driver must have dozed off, but what disturbed me was he was exceeding the speed limit.
These incidents are only a few that I could mention based on my experiences.
There are a lot more incidents that have been experienced by my relatives and friends who live along that road as well.
A lot of these incidents are centred on the drivers exceeding their speed limit.
These drivers do not think of the safety of others. Maybe it is because they are driving large vehicles so they do not bother to slow down at all.
I am very worried about this matter as accidents could happen because these drivers do not follow road rules.
I suggest concerned officers, such as JPD and Police Traffic Department conduct speed traps in such areas to avoid unfortunate incidents. I know there is a hotline to report this matter, but it seems that the drivers do not bother about it. I really hope this matter will be taken seriously and action is taken immediately.
