Driver fined for failing to declare cigarettes

THE driver for the People’s Republic of China envoy to Brunei Darussalam was yesterday fined $1,500, or to serve four months jail in default, after his admission that he did not declare his possession of cigarettes at the border post, before the Magistrate’s Court in the capital.
Malaysian national, Ramu Muniandy, 50, admitted that he had failed to declare 34 packets of Era cigarettes upon his arrival at the Sungai Tujoh Control Post from Miri on February 5, 2013.
Senior Magistrate Muhammed Faisal PD Hj Kefli released the defendant on bail of $2,000 or in default two local sureties, while he comes up with the payment within a two month period.
