TO start the day with reading is the usual scenario in the Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) School in Sg Akar.

Upon arrival at the school, the students gather in the school’s multi-purpose hall to do daily reading. This activity was initiated on April 30, 2011 by the school principal, Sikun Bin Rayun.

This year, the primary pupils have been invited to join the reading programme to help inculcate the habit of reading at an early age. The school believes in the benefits of reading as it helps the students broaden their vocabularies, gain ideas, improve their communication and writing skills.

Over the last few years, the reading programme is gradually helping PGGMB students to speak confidently and communicate effectively. A noticeable academic improvement in the students who sat for public exams is also apparent.

PGGMB School Sg Akar, according to a press release, plans to continuously conduct this useful activity as it brings numerous benefits to the students.
