BRUNEI Darussalam will for the first time be participating in the Port Dickson Petanque Open Championship from Feb 1-3 in Malaysia.
National petanque captain, Mazlan bin Hj Yahya said Brunei will be represented by two teams for the triple men’s category,
Top players from Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia will also be competing in the triple men’s and triple women’s categories.
Mazlan said that seven players with three coaches and managers will be doing their best to achieve top rankings in the competition.
“We practised every day, whether or not there is an upcoming competition, they practise on a daily basis to improve their game and sharpen their skills prior to any competition,” Mazlan said.
At the Asean petanque competition in Hanoi, Vietnam last year, Brunei did well by beating one of the stronger teams from Vietnam.
Mazlan explained that through the exposure of playing against world class players, they are able to prepare themselves for the upcoming Pan Pacific Petanque Competition in June, where Brunei Darussalam will be the host country.
So far 16 countries have confirmed participating for the competition in June.
