The recreational park, which cost more than $100,000 to set up, is located 1.5km from the junction of Jalan Kapok Kanan in Muara. The recreational park is equipped with facilities such as walkways, car parks and public toilet.

The event yesterday, which coincided with Bukit Tempayan Pisang Hill Challenge, was conducted by Kampung Kapok Consultative Council in collaboration with Brunei-Muara District Office.

The Minister of Home Affairs said Bukit Tempayan Pisang attracts a large numbers of recreation-seeking visitors.

The facelift and facilities made available in the area will further promote the image of Kampung Kapok as a village which has its own beauty and attraction, which could turn into an eco-tourism destination for visitors, both local and international.

He said the residents of Mukim Serasa, which has a population of more than 10,000 people of whom three quarter of them (3,307 people) reside in Kampung Kapok, can feel proud of the establishment of the park. They can carry out various events, including healthy outdoor activities such as youth camps and hill climb challenges at the park.

The park also gives an opportunity to the village community to carry out economic activities, especially promoting their “One Village One Product” programme, which is in line with the village mission to make Bukit Tempayan Pisang Recreational Park one of their village products, besides handicrafts and cultural activities.

The launching of the park shows the hard work and cooperation between the Kampong Kapok Consultative Council and Mukim Serasa Consultative Council, as well as the community and village residents.

The minister added that the “One Village One Product” programme is one of the initiatives of Ministry of Home Affairs to further increase the villages’ economy.

Kampung Kapok Village Head, Awg Hj Marali bin Hj Ahmad, who’s also chairman of the event yesterday said the Kampong Kapok Consultative Council has played a role in further developing the village.

He urged the residents and the public to maintain the cleanliness of the park.

He expressed his appreciation to Kg Kapok Consultative Council in their effort to bring development to the village.

At the event the minister also presented prize to the winners of the Bukit Tempayan Pisang Hill Challenge. He also planted a Kapok tree at the recreational park area and viewed the sale of village products by the village residents.
