Hj Aziz Men’s ‘A’ champion of champions

HAJI Aziz bin Hj Kassim clinched the Men’s ‘A’ category crown of the Empire Hotel and Country Club Member Monthly Golf Awards yesterday afternoon.
Hj Aziz recorded a Nett score of 66 to pip his closest competitor, Dato Hj Mohd Samid Hj Abd Aziz, to the title in the 0-10 handicap category.
Meanwhile, Yeo Yock San was the Nett winner in the Men’s ‘B’ category, for those with a handicap of 11-19, with a score of 68, whilst the People’s Republic of China’s Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Mr Zheng Xiang Lin, was hot on his heels with a Nett score of 70.
Wallace Koh was the champion in the Men’s ‘C’ category, for player with a handicap of 20 and above, with a Nett score of 67, whilst William Yap finished the course with an incredible eight-under-par score of 63 in the Men Senior category.
Joy Estrella claimed top honours in the Ladies category after ending the day with a Nett score of 67, narrowly beating Ooi Hoon Chyang’s Nett score of 68.
Dr Ping Pei Kong was the Men‘s Overall Gross winner with his Nett score of 79, whilst over Hjh Noor Hayati’s Nett score of 85 was enough to clinch the Ladies’ Overall Gross winner title.
Elsewhere, Dave Christensen recorded an impressive seven-under-par score of 64 to take home the Guest Nett winner crown.
Following yesterday’s results, Hj Aziz was the Men’s ‘A’ Champion of Champions (COC), a title bestowed upon players with the best overall score of the calendar year, in this case for 2012.
Lim Tiong Kheng’s Nett score of 68 earned him the COC title in the Men’s ‘B’, whilst in the Men’s ‘C’ it was Wu Ming Hsien with a Nett score of 69.
William Yap’s stunning performance on the green yesterday earned him the outright COC crown in the Men Senior category, whilst Joy Estrella was the Ladies COC winner.
Pg Abdul Rahman, Operations Manager for the Empire Hotel and Country Club presented the prizes to the winners.
“This month’s tournament was special because it marked the end of the 2012 calendar year,” remarked Pg Abdul Rahman after the prize presentation.
“Some of the scores were really good today, especially in the senior category. I certainly didn’t expect him to be at eight-under-par, so that was quite an achievement,” he added.
