The Kuala Belalong Field Studies Centre, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, (UBD) will be organising a lecture entitled “The Royal Society’s SE Asia Rainforest Research Programme: 25 Years of Research at Danum Valley in Sabah”.
The lecture will be delivered by Datuk Dr Glen Reynold MBE, Director & Senior Scientists, Royal Society SE Asia Rainforest Research Programme (SEARRP), Danum Valley Field Centre, Sabah.
According to a press release from UBD, the lecture will be held on Wednesday January 30 at 2pm at the Faculty of Science, Lecture Room M2.18, UBD.
Since 1985, the Royal Society (the UK Academy of Science), via its SE Asia Rainforest Research Programme (SEARRP), has supported a wide-ranging programme of scientific research headquartered at the Danum Valley in Sabah, Borneo.
Over the past 25+ years, SEARRP scientists have generated many hundreds of academic papers, more than 150 students have gained MSc or PhD degrees through the programme and the Danum Valley Field Centre is now widely acknowledged as one of the most productive and influential forest research stations in Southeast Asia, indeed the Old World tropics.
The presentation will summarise the research programme supported by the Royal Society at Danum Valley, highlight key finding and how these contribute to rainforest conservation and sustainable management and highlight new directions that SEARRP might take in the future.
