UBD’s Language Centre (UBD-LC) has recently been accredited as an examination centre for the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) of the Republic of Korea, according to a press release yesterday.
TOPIK is a Korean language test administered by NIIED four times a year for foreigners in Korea and twice annually for candidates in other countries, including Brunei Darussalam and the centre has begun offering Korean language in 2005 in close cooperation and with strong support from the Embassy of the Korean Republic, as well as the Korea Foundation.
Currently, the UBD-LC offers Korean language modules to university’s students from Beginners to Advanced levels, allowing them to graduate with a Minor in Korean Language as of January 2012 and the centre also services Korean language courses for the public in the evenings.
TOPIK is offered to UBD’s Korean language students to challenge their language skills on an international benchmark thus this international accreditation therefore recognises the centre’s strength in Korean language teaching.
At the same time it also reflects the confidence that the Korean government has in UBD-LC’s teaching quality and examination standards.
Korean language is one of the most popular foreign languages among fulltime UBD students as well as among members of the public who attend the evening language classes.
