THE Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam in Kg Bengkurong yesterday received donations from two private sector companies – the National Insurance Company Berhad, and Icarus Sdn Bhd Landscaping and Pool Services.

The contribution from National Insurance Company Berhad was in the form of much needed shelving and reading materials for the new Pusat Ehsan library. Icarus Sdn Bhd Landscaping and Pool Services donated a trampoline for the use of activities by the special needs children at the centre.

The presentation ceremony took place yesterday at Pusat Ehsan in Bengkurong.

It began with a welcoming speech from Haji Ahmad bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Policy and Planning Trustee, who also received the donations on behalf of the centre, while presenting the donation was Kolja Klawunn from National Insurance Company Berhad, who also later toured the centre.

According to Pusat Ehsan, its library project began last year and has gained great momentum in bringing reading materials to assist teachers in the classroom.

The new-look shelving is a great improvement, allowing for easy access for both staff and students in choosing literature.

The company also sponsored all the materials for the new Science curriculum, which includes those for exploration, discovery of life science, including the human body, as well as experiments in weights, volume and magnetism.

The centre’s library is still open to those who wish to donate good quality books in Malay or in English.

There was also a video presentation for the guests yesterday, which showcased the daily activities of the centre.

Pusat Ehsan is a non-profit governmental welfare body that provides special lessons, training, caring and services to people with special needs in the country.

Currently, there are a total of 139 special students registered at the centre and another 39 people registered at its branch in Kuala Belait.
