Minister discusses regional, bilateral issues with Thai counterpart

THE Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar bin Hj Apong in his capacity as the 46th President of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation Council continued with his visit to SEAMEO Regional Centres in Thailand.
Accompanying the minister were the Brunei Darussalam Ambassador to Thailand, Dato Paduka Hj Kamis bin Hj Tamin; Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Dr Hj Junaidi bin Hj Abd Rahman; and the Director of the SEAMEO Secretariat, Dr Witaya Jeradechakul.
During the trip, the minister paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Prime Minister cum Minister of Education of Thailand, Mr Phongthep Thepkanjana, where both ministers discussed regional and bilateral issues. Topics discussed included various projects undertaken by the SEAMEO Secretariat and plans for the organisation’s future direction; and student exchanges between institutions of higher learning.
The discussion also touched on recent developments of education at the primary and secondary levels; issues related to teaching the English language in the school curriculum; and the development of school leadership training.
