Orthopaedic conference at The Empire

THE first International Orthopaedic Conference organised by the Orthopaedic Society, Brunei Darussalam under the auspices of the Ministry of Health was held yesterday at the Indera Kayangan Ballroom of The Empire Hotel and Country Club.

The theme of the conference was ‘In Pursuit of Healthy Bones for a Health Nation’. According to Dr Ketan Chandrashekhar Pande, Head of Orthopaedic Department in RIPAS Hospital in his welcoming address, the theme is in line with the vision of the Ministry of Health and the department’s increasing role in caring for orthopaedic problems in the population.

Present as the guest of honour was Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Md Yusof, the Minister of Health.

The conference is one of the significant achievements in orthopaedics in upgrading the quality of services in order to be at par with other international bodies.

It is also aimed at sharing experiences and knowledge presented by speakers from overseas, which can be used.

The conference saw five guest lectures from overseas, namely Dr Bernard Lee from Singapore, Prof Sharaf Ibrahim and Dr Abdul Halim from Malaysia, Dr Alberto Molano from Philippines and Associate Professor Norikazu Yamada from Japan.

The presence of Professor Pasion, Secretary General of the Asean Orthopaedic Society was also acknowledged at the ceremony.

Also present at yesterday’s ceremony was Haji Awg Saifulbahri bin Hj Awg Mansor, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, senior officers, officers and staff of the ministry, and officers from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Religious Affairs.
