Area II, Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati Kg Tungku gets first village head

Pengiran Hamzah bin Pengiran Haji Matali will be leading the villagers of Area II, Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati Kampung Tungku, Mukim Gadong ‘A’ after he was officially appointed yesterday as the first village head during a letter of appointment presentation ceremony.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Dato Paduka Dr Awang Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Awang Hj Abidin officiated the ceremony.

To ensure he is able to give his best, Pengiran Hamzah has quit his job to serve as the new village head.

In his speech, the permanent secretary noted, “Pengiran Hamzah’s willingness to let go of his job in one of the government agencies to be appointed as the head of village is a huge commitment. It is a huge task to leads the villagers and to face the challenges that come with being a leader.”

He later revealed that the appointment of head of village is a first for Area II, Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati Kampung Tungku, which boasts a total population of 2,203, and has 262 households – according to the Population and Household Census 2011.

Meanwhile, Brunei-Muara District Officer Hj Jamain bin Momin highlighted in his speech, “The position of village head is of high recognition given by the Government of His Majesty.

“We hope that Pengiran Hamzah will continue to interact closely with the villagers through meetings, discussions from time to time as well as by conducting visits to the surrounding of the village, so as to better understand the situation of the villagers. Also important is being prepared to listen to suggestions from the villagers, and to take a closer look at the applications of the villagers.”

He added, “In planning and implementing any project for the benefit of the village, the success of the project will lie not only on the shoulders of the head of village, but also the citizen and residents of the country – especially the villagers of Area II, Skim Tanah Kurnia Rakyat Jati Kampung Tungku and Village Consultative Council, whereby everyone can play a role in helping the village head.”

Following the speeches, the permanent secretary presented the letter of appointment to Pengiran Hamzah, who read the oath as the new village head.
