A PRESENTATION ceremony for the Fisheries Assistance Scheme was held yesterday at the Muara Fisheries Complex, which was attended by the Acting Director of Fisheries Department, Awang Abdul Halidi bin Mohd Salleh.
The acting director began by highlighting the importance of packaging in protecting and maintaining a product from its place of manufacture to the home of its consumer.
“Packaging shows important dietary information about the product and methods of storage. In general, the Fisheries Assistance Scheme is conducted by the Fisheries Department to entrepreneurs involved in the industry to facilitate or ease their operation for increasing production.”
He also said that not only can packaging attract buyers, it also maintains product cleanliness during transport and storage. He added that the packaging will increase the shelf life of the product and prevent discoloration as it is not exposed to air.
“The Fisheries Assistance Scheme for product packaging for a MPK (Village Consultative Council) is to help the MPK, especially participants who have attended courses with the Fisheries Department and have truly shown a high level of commitment in being successful and consistent in product processing.”
Some 5,000 units of prawn cracker packaging for the MPKs of Kampong Masjid Lama, Kampong Sabun and Pelumpong, were then presented by the acting director to the villages’ community leader, Pg Hj Mohamed bin Pg Hj Osman.
Also in attendance was Acting Deputy Director of Fisheries Department, Hajah Noorizan binti Haji Abd Karim, and officials from the department and members of the MPKs.
