DUNGUN (Bernama) – The Federal Government will make immediate provision for the repair of the main road to Kampung Pasir Raja in Hulu Dungun which collapsed due to heavy rain and soil deposits, said Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan.
He said the repairs will be made through the Terengganu Tengah Development Authority (Ketengah).
“We will make an estimation immediately to repair the road because this road is the major route used by residents,” he told Bernama after surveying the road that collapsed.
Four firemen from Al-Muktafi Billah Shah fire station were hurt when their road rescue vehicle (RRV) plunged into a ravine at Jalan Kampung Syukur-Pasir Raja in the early morning last Wednesday.
Ahmad, who is also Umno information chief visited flood victims in several villages in Hulu Dungun including Kampung Shukor and Kampung Pasir Raja which is the last village in the interior of Hulu Dungun.
The supply of clean water to Kampung Shukor was cut off since last week as the main pipe channelling water to the village was also damaged by soil deposits.
One of the villagers, Tengku Faridah Tengku Mahmud, 55, said residents had to use rainwater and hill water for their daily use.
“This is the worst floods I have witnessed, four rooms collapsed in my aunt’s house and we had to sleep in the living room,” she said.
Another resident Tengku Nor Shahida Tengku Hashim, 30, said she was grateful to the government and other agencies for the food and clean water supplies. But what we need now is medical aid and clothing, there is even no medicine to stop my child’s diarrhoea, which is worrying,” she said.
