THE Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Brunei Darussalam Network recently held its 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the I-Lotus Restaurant, Kg Rimba, Gadong, a press release stated.
The AGM received the Chairman’s Report for the Session 2013/2014 and the audited account for the Session 2013/2014. During the AGM, the office bearers, management committee members and auditors for the term 2014/2015 were elected.
The new management committee comprised of professionals from both the government and private institutions. Simon Leong Kian Ann from KR Kamarulzaman & Associates was elected as the Honorary Chairman for the new management committee.
Also elected were Maj (U) Schufin bin Hj Brahim from the Ministry of Defence as Honorary Vice Chairman, Haji Jailani bin Haji Buntar from the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) as the Honorary Secretary and Capt Wan Farhan bin Hj Ibrahim from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces as the Honorary Assistant Secretary, while Dr Tang Shi Siong from Politeknik Brunei was elected the Honorary Treasurer.
Other committee members are Freddie Stephen Tong, Hj Amrinal bin Hj Amir, Md Khairul Anwar bin Bakar, Sivajothi Deivasagayam, Talib bin Sulaiman and Ong Boon Jing.
The IET is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community. It has more than 150,000 members in 127 countries and offices in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.
In the AGM, the past honorary secretary reiterated the vision and mission of IET and what the IET Brunei Local Network stood for. The IET Brunei sets its vision in sharing and advancing knowledge throughout the global Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) community contributing towards national development. With a mission among others, is to establish a culture of professionalism highly valued and appreciated by all in Brunei Darussalam. Increased membership and collaboration with relevant stakeholders will be key success factors in achieving this mission.
The 2013/2014 session marked several milestones and achievements in promoting IET to the public in general, industry and the government sectors. Highlights during the session include the inauguration of the IET Student Chapter with the Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) or I2SC and the IET Brunei Darussalam Symposium 2014 held at the Rizqun International Hotel last month as the highlight of the year.
Of particular highlight was the visit by John Lorrimar, a consultant from IET UK who gave a Mentoring Workshop and a talk on how to achieve Chartership status for engineers on May 26 – 28. Also of significance was a visit by Chief Executive Secretary from IET UK, Nigel Fine who not only gave a keynote speech during the IET Brunei Symposium 2014, but also had a meet and greet session with Young Professional Students members.
Several technical visits, promotional and engagement campaigns also took place throughout the year as part of IET Brunei Darussalam’s continuous efforts to promote its cause.
