THE Young Professionals Section (YPS) of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) Brunei Darussalam Network organised a special get-together session at I-Lotus Restaurant in Rimba with the Chief Executive and Secretary of IET, UK, Nigel Fine, as the event’s speaker, and the Honorary Chairman of IET Brunei Darussalam, Lt Col (Rtd) Hj Amir Hamzah bin Hj Hanafi, in attendance.
The objective of the get-together, which was attended by up to 50 people comprising YPS, IET-ITB Student Chap-ter and IET Brunei Committee members, was to engage, develop and nurture young professionals and student leaders to serve in the engineering technology and IT industry in Brunei and beyond.
The session was initiated with a welcoming address and a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah by IET Brunei YPS Chairman, Khairul Anwar Bakar, who highlighted that the YPS can be taken as a platform for an open, flexible and unlimited knowledge networking between individuals, companies and institutions. He added that apart from this, they also oversee the IET-ITB Student Chapter and toge-ther arrange various activities, such as technical talks, visits and training courses, among others.
His address was followed by a motivational speech from Nigel Fine, who shared his experience and general views on young professionals, stressing that IET’s mission is to inspire the next generation of engineers and technicians; inform the wider engineering community as well as in-fluence government and standards to advance society.
He further noted that the Brunei government values in-novation as a catalyst to achieve sustainable development and economic growth, and believes that the young profes-sionals will play a key role in the future.
The programme concluded with a Q&A session and dinner, which gave the participants a chance to network.
