THE Indian Association of Belait (IAB) Saturday organised various competitions for children in conjunction with ‘Gandhi Jayanthi,’ the birthday of MK Gandhi which is marked on October 2.
The programme started at 6pm with colouring competitions for children, and was followed by a welcome note and Gandhi’s message delivered by IAB Vice President Sanjay Mishra.
The day also saw a speech competition on the topic ‘Life of Mahatma Gandhi’ and it ended with a quiz related to Mahatma Gandhi, Indian independence and general knowledge on India.
Altogether 58 children/adults participated in the competitions and over 120 people showed up for the event.
Competition judges later distributed mementos to all participants, while the competition winners were given prizes by IAB Management Committee members.
As a token of appreciation, souvenirs were also given to the judges and other programme supporters. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by IAB General Secretary Murali Manohar and the singing of the Indian national anthem.
The day after, Indian Association of Belait members joined hands to complete a ‘Community Service Day – Gotong Royong’ acti-vity by cleaning the east side road access to IAB, which has been left unused for decades and was covered by vegetation and other installations.
The clear-up commenced at 9am and took around three hours to complete.
