HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Minister of Defence and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), yesterday presented prizes to winners of the 11th Brunei International Skill at Arms Meet (BISAM).
A total of 478 of the finest marksmen and shooters from Military and Defence Forces of 16 participating countries took part in the triennial shooting meet, where a series of shooting matches were held over 11 days at the Binturan Shooting Range Complex at Penanjong Garrison.
At the closing ceremony yesterday, His Majesty first presented prizes to the winners of the special competition of the VVIP Novelty Shooting Competition (350- Metre Line Category).
The 11th BISAM trophy presentation opened with the marching of Pipes and Drums from the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF).
The VVIP Novelty Shooting Competition was won by Team ‘H’ comprising Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Wardi bin Hj Abd Latip, Commander of Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF); Amphay Kindavong, Ambassador of Laos to Brunei Darussalam; Chhay Sokhan, Ambassador of Cambodia to Brunei Darussalam and Brigadier General Chia Choon Hoong, Chief of Staff-J5, Singapore Armed Forces.
Ranking in second place was Team ‘A’ comprising His Majesty; General Wang Jianping, Deputy Chief of General of Chinese People’s Liberation Army; General Sommai, Chief of Joint Staff of Royal Thai Armed Forces and Lieutenant Colonel Saiful bin Abdul Latif, Commanding Officer Special Regiment of RBAF.
Third place was taken by Team ‘B’, comprising His Royal Highness Prince General Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and General of the RBAF; General TNI Gatot Nurmantyo, Chief of Army TNI; Lieutenant General John S Bonafos, Chief of Staff of Armed Forces of Republic of Philippines and Lieutenant Colonel Joshe Raetz, Commander 1st Special Forces Group, United States of America.
In fourth place was Team ‘C’, comprising Deputy Minister of Defence Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat; Brigadier (Rtd) Muhammad Zareef Malik, High Commissioner of Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam; Nguyen Truong Giang, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Brunei Darussalam and General Dato Paduka Seri Tan Sri Dato’ Seri (Dr) Zulkifeli bin Mohd Zain, Chief of Malaysian Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, the ‘Individual Rifle Match’ was won by Brunei, while the ‘Overall Team Rifle Match’ was won by the Republic of Indonesia.
The ‘Overall Individual Pistol Match’ was won by the Republic of Indonesia, while the ‘Overall Team Pistol Match’ also went to the Republic of Indonesia.
The Republic of Indonesia also won the ‘Overall GPMG Pair Match,’ ‘Overall Team GPMG’ and ‘Rifle Falling Plate’, earning them this year’s championship title based on the most aggregate match point.
In the ‘Rifle Falling Plate Match Finals’ held at the 11th BISAM closing ceremony, the first place went to the Republic of Indonesia, while Brunei ‘B’ RBAF ranked in second.
