HONG KONG (Bernama) – Hong Kong’s Department of Health on Friday appealed for continued vigilance against the Ebola virus due to rising cases in Africa, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Centre for Health Protection said it is liaising with the African community, district councils, government departments and non-governmental organisations on the latest situation, and seeking their assistance in disseminating health information.
It has held briefings with private hospitals and the hotel sector on Ebola infection control and preparedness.
It plans to hold health talks with community organisations, property management bodies and transport operators.
Latest statistics from the World Health Organisation show a total of 5,357 Ebola cases including 2,630 deaths have been reported in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Senegal as of September 14.
The Health Department has advised people to avoid unnecessary travel to the affected countries.
