TO CELEBRATE the students’ effort in the Primary School Assessment (PSR) Examination held in October, a Sports Championship was held yesterday at Anthony Abell College’s Track Field for most of the primary schools in the Cluster 6 area in Belait District.
Held as an annual event by the Co-Curriculum Sports and Activities Division, the two day-long event aimed to promote to the students on a healthy lifestyle by partaking in various sporting activities, as well as an avenue to relieve stress during the examinations by being in a friendly competition against other primary school students.
The event was also an opportunity to remind students to be disciplined among themselves by exercising respect and sportsmanship in the competition, along with showcasing the various talents that can be found in the primary students of Belait District.
In total, 15 government and private primary schools from across the Belait District participated in the sports championship. They were Ahmad Tajuddin Primary School, Kuala Belait Primary School, Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Primary School, Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Abdul Momin Primary School, Sungai Teraban Primary School, Panaga Primary School, Muhammad Alam Primary School, Pengiran Setia Negara Pengiran Mohd Yusof Primary School, Sungai Tali Lumut II Primary School, Lumut Primary School, OKPB Bukit Sawat Primary School, Merangking Primary School, DMS Dian Sukang Primary School, Labi Primary School, and Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait.
The students from each school were assigned to partake in various sporting activities in the event, which included 100m sprint for boys and girls, 400m relay race for boy and girls and long jump for boys and girls.
Despite the pouring rain on the first day of the sport championship, the sport activities continued to be held in high spirits as students gave their all in their respective activities.
On the final day of the sports championship, Suhaini bin Haji Othman, Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) for the Cluster 6 of Schools in Belait District, was present at event to observe the students’ performance in the sport activities and to hand the trophies to the respective winners of the competition as the guest of honour.
At the end of the event, the overall champion of the competition was won by Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait, whose students bagged 13 gold medals, two silvers and two bronze medals for a total of 17 medals.
Following behind Chung Hua Middle School was Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Primary School in second place which scored 11 medals (three gold, five silver, and three bronze). In third place was Panaga Primary School which attained six medals (two gold, three silver, and one bronze).
The guest of honour presented the prizes, which included medals and trophy to the representative of the respective schools, along with congratulating them on their achievement in the event.
