MINISTER of Health, Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof, yesterday highlighted the importance of a healthy populace in realising the nation’s Vision 2035.
This, he added, is why the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) universal health coverage programme to provide comprehensive, accessible and fair healthcare is important.
Speaking at the dialogue session between the ministry and members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) yesterday at Dewan Al-‘Afiah of the ministry, the minister also stressed on the joint responsibilities of all stakeholders towards healthcare. The minister urged for strong cooperation from all levels of the community including LegCo members to improve the health and welfare of the people.
Following the minister’s speech, LegCo member, YB Haji Mohd Shafiee bin Ahmad, spoke as representative of the delegation of 18 LegCo members. This was followed by a presentation on ‘Challenges of Public Health in Achieving Brunei Vision 2035’ by Permanent Secretary at the MoH, Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil.
The dialogue session, chaired by the minister, also served as a sharing session on the development of the healthcare system.
Yesterday’s event was also aimed at strengthening cooperation between the ministry and stakeholders to make the healthcare system more efficient, effective and ready to face challenges now and in the future.
Present at the dialogue session were deputy permanent secretaries, directors-general, directors and senior officers at the ministry.
