SOME 160 students of the Mechanical Training Centre (PLM) yesterday attended the two-day “Mini Matahari Hand Injury Awareness Workshop” at Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College (MTSSR).
Among the facilitators and trainers were Johnny Yap, Chairman of BSP Wells HSE Network; Pengiran Abu Bakar Pg Hj Karim, BSP Wells HSE Advisor; Abdul Khalid bin Haji Jalil, HSE Manager Baker Hughes; Aslan Zakaria, HSE Manager ESG Balliburton and Nur Liyana Fatimah Hj Matdanan, BSP Wells HSE Advisor.
Among the highlighted topics were hand and finger injury prevention, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), material handling and road safety.
According to Nur Liyana Fatimah, the job process within the oil and gas industry might be hazardous.
She emphasised that people often underestimate the importance of hand and finger safety.
She said accidents were common among the “green hats” (new employees).
She added that the workshop was an opportunity for the students to learn more about injury prevention.
