THE Ministry of Education (MoE), in collaboration with the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR), yesterday held a tree-planting ceremony in conjunction with the celebration of Teacher’s Day and 100th year of formal education in Brunei. Themed, “Kelestarian Tumbuhan, Kesinambungan Pendidikan”, the ceremony took place at the Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre.
The guest of honour was Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusoff bin Haji Ismail, the Deputy Minister of Education.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat by Imam Haji Sufri bin Haji Mega, Imam of the Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Mateen Mosque.
Following that, Pengiran Haji Zahari bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad, the Acting Special Duties Officer (Secondary) / Acting Assistant Director (Secondary), delivered the welcome speech in his capacity as the chairman of the event.
In his remark, Pengiran Haji Zahari urged the school administrators, teachers and students to be proactive in creating beautiful landscape to maintain a fresh and comfortable school environment. He also hoped that their tree planting effort will be beneficial to the country, with them being contributing ‘greens’.
A total 152 seedlings were distributed to head of clusters and zones for secondary schools, colleges as well as primary schools from across the nation.
Afterwards, more than 300 participants including education officers, MIPR officers, teachers and students were involved in the mass tree-planting ceremony within the premises of the college officiated by the guest of honour.
The tree planting and distribution of seedlings symbolised continuity of healthy life through care and mirrored in the students’ need to be nurtured by positive moral values in order to grow up well and contribute to their religion, society and country.
Also in attendance were Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education; Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education; as well as senior officials from MoE and MIPR.
