THE Brunei Darussalam contingent to the 8th BIMP-EAGA Solidarity Games in Labuan who won three gold, eight silver and four bronze medals were welcomed home by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Hamid bin Haji Mohd Jaafar at the Serasa Ferry Terminal yesterday.
The contingent participated in five sports and was led by YAM Pengiran Anak Sofian bin Pengiran Anak Haji Ibrahim as the chef-de-mission.
Brunei bagged the three gold medals through athletics, eight silver medals from athletics and pencak silat, while the four bronze medals were from athletics, pencak silat and takraw.
Adenin bin Bolhan who bagged two gold medals in the discus and shot put events said he felt happy and proud to win two gold medals for the country.
“This will be my last year joining the Under-21 games and will continue training and hoped to take part in the SEA Games and Asian Games,” he added.
Maziah Mahusin said she was surprised to win the gold in the 400m event.
“I was actually concentrating on the 200m event and didn’t realise I was breaking records again. I felt good breaking my personal best and national record.
“I will continue to train harder for future games and especially for the 2015 SEA Games and other international events,” she added.
