A STRONG turnout of people yesterday showed up at the Ministry of Communications for an aerobics and walkathon held to mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
Organised by the Brunei Darussalam Road Safety Council (BDRSC), the event was held to pay tribute to victims of road traffic accidents and at the same time to highlight the benefits of the traffic rules and regulations in place.
Minister of Communications cum BDRSC Advisor Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar and his spouse, Datin Hajah Hasiah binti Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Setia Dato Paduka Haji Hasim, joined over 200 people at the event.
The morning event opened with a safety briefing and a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, prior to the start of the aerobics.
Later, the minister led the male participants on the 3.5km walkathon past Jalan Menteri Besar, Commonweath Drive and Jalan Kebangsaan before heading back to the ministry’s headquarters.
Meanwhile, the female participants were led by the minister’s spouse on a 2.5km walk.
Among the participants were senior officials, officers and staff members of the Ministry of Communications and the departments under it, some of whom came with their families.
