HIJRAH signifies the emigration of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) from Makkah to Madinah and the beginning of new year in Islamic calendar, thus Muslims in Brunei give much importance to this day.
To enliven the spirit of the Islamic New Year, babies born on this day were celebrated across the country yesterday.
In Tutong District, two babies, a boy and a girl, were born on 1st Muharam 1436 Hijrah.
The first baby, a girl, was born to Dayang Jurainah binti Salleh and Awang Md Ariffin bin Hj Ghani from Kampung Menengah and Bukit Sulang respectively.
The healthy 2.9kg girl is the couples’ sixth child born at 9.22am.
The second baby, a baby boy, born to Dyg Nuratipah binti Besar and Awang Muhd Hazman bin Gending from Bukit Beruang National Housing, Tutong.
The healthy 2.5kg baby was born at 11.17am.
In keeping with the annual tradition, the Hijrah babies were showered with gifts. The gifts were presented by Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health.
The gifts – hamper, voucher, baby items and children’s saving accounts – were contributed by Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Brunei (TAIB), Syarikat Takaful Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Also presenting the gifts were representatives from Tabung Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Brunei (TAIB), Syarikat Takaful Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The event was also attended by Tutong District officer, Awg Wardi bin Hj Muhammad Ali, Members of the Legislative Council, Awg Hj Mohd Sabri bin Hj Anuar, CEO of Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital, Awg Hassan bin Amat, Head of Religious Officer, Tutong as well as other government officers.
