Manila (dpa) – A German national who allegedly entered a restricted military camp in the Philippines last week was stopped at the Manila airport as he attempted to return to Germany on Sunday.
The man has been placed on an immigration watch list and must undergo deportation proceedings on Monday, immigration officials said, according to an ABS-CBN television news report.
The Philippines government wants to declare the man persona non grata and bar him from visiting the country again, an army spokesman said.
The German man allegedly breached security at Camp Aguinaldo last week by climbing a fence. He reportedly shoved a soldier while trying to see the detained US Marine who has been charged with killing the German man’s transgender partner.
The German national arrived in the Philippines on Monday to show sympathy for the family of transgender Jeffrey “Jennifer” Laude, who was killed in a motel room in Olongapo City on October 11.
The German man told reporters at the airport he had no intention of disrespecting Philippines’ officials and laws. He said he was overtaken by emotion during the incident.
