A FOUNDATION laying ceremony for surau and Defence Academy Headquarters was held yesterday at the project site in Kampong Tanah Jambu.
Officiating the foundation laying ceremony was the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.
The project is located within the new Defence Academy at Kampong Tanah Jambu. The surau building is designed on the highest platform on site according to the Malay Islamic Monarchy philosophy and value.
Once the construction is completed, there will be a prayer hall which could accommodate up to 300 congregants, a VIP room, a porch and basic amenities.
The Defence Academy Headquarters building primarily consists of office space and conference room.
The project adheres to the vision of the Ministry of Defence to deliver robust, responsive and resource-efficient armed forces to defend the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and uphold the constitution and Malay Islamic Monarchy philosophy. The Defence Academy will be the most advanced, and relevant officer training facility in the region.
The appointed consultants in this project are Arkitek Rekajaya as the architect, Adwan Associates as the civil/structural engineering consultant, Regional Consultant as the mechanical/electrical engineering consultant and HZ & Associates as the quantity surveyor.
The project which costs $3,938,370 is awarded to Jackton Construction & Developing Co Sdn Bhd for 13 months and due to be completed by August 2015.
The foundation laying ceremony was attended by directors, officers and staff from Officer Cadet School, Directorate of Development and Work Services.
