Former SMJA students meet after 40 years

OVER 150 former students from the first English-medium intake 1975-1978 of the Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School (SMJA) recently got together for a reunion with 20 of the school’s former teachers at the Mangrove Paradise Resort Restaurant in Jalan Kota Batu.

Md Serudin bin Haji Tuah, chairperson of the event’s executive committee, in his welcoming speech expressed his gratitude to Allah the Almighty for being able to meet old school friends after 40 years. The alumni was established on May 15, 2016 with 147 members.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Ustaz Haji Saiful Bahri bin Haji Ahmad, followed by a Dikir Marhaban to bless members who just returned from the Haj pilgrimage.

The event continued with the presentation of souvenirs to the former teachers by Haji Haris bin Othman, former Belait District Officer who is also the alumni’s Adviser I.

Haji Abdurahman bin Haji Nasir, Adviser II who is also the Penghulu of Mukim Labu, presented donations to family members of former students who had passed away.
