SENIOR immigration officers detained a foreign national yesterday after he was found peddling hand phones.
The man was apprehended during a routine check conducted in an area of shop houses in Seria, Belait District at 12.55pm.
The routine operation was conducted as part of the efforts of the Law Enforcement Unit under the Immigration and National Registration Department (JIPK) to weed out immigration offenders in the district
A team of three officials raided the area following a tip-off they received from some people residing in that area. During the operation the accused tried to flee but the officials successfully halted his attempt and detained him.

The Department of Immigration and National Registration reminded employers and foreign nationals to be vigilant and always abide by immigration acts and laws. The Law Enforcement Unit will constantly carry out enforcement activities, either independently or jointly with other enforcement agencies, the JIPK said.
